Fatigue Management

Deluxe Freight Systems believes that the matter of Fatigue Management is a serious issue. With the new Fatigue Regulations & Driver Work Hours commencing on the 29th September, 2008, with transitional arrangements (QTA Transporter News Brief - Volume 28, No. 31), Deluxe Freight Systems is ensuring that all Managers and Drivers are fully conversant with the new Regulations and Requirements.

Deluxe Freight Systems currently operate under the Transitional Fatigue Management Scheme.

The new option Deluxe Freight Systems will choose is BFM - Basic Fatigue Management.

Under the new Basic Fatigue Management scheme;

  • All Drivers working for Deluxe Freight Systems must complete a New Work Diary.
  • Drivers currently using a logbook have 90 days starting 29th Sept, 2008 to obtain and start using a New Work Diary.
  • Drivers who do not have a current logbook have 14 days starting 29th Sept, 2008 to obtain and start using a New Work Diary.
  • Drivers must apply for New Work Diaries in person at Queensland Transport Customer Services Centres.

  • Shift Scheduling and roster changes can be major contributors to heavy vehicle driver fatigue
  • 74% of heavy vehicle drivers think fatigue is a serious problem in the road freight industry
  • Only 41% of heavy vehicle drivers consider driver fatigue well-managed in the industry
  • 47% of heavy vehicle drivers reported being delayed for more than 15 minutes waiting in queues.
