Deluxe Freight Systems employs the industry standard volumetric pricing model.
So, what is Volumetric charging, and how does it work?
Cubic weight calculator
When measuring a trucks load capacity it can be calculated in two ways, cubic Volume and dead weight.
Cubic Volume - the amount of physical space that the freight occupies.
Dead Weight - the actual weight of the freight.
An example could be a box that is 1m height x 1m wide x 1m deep with a dead weight of 10kg, when loaded on a truck, takes up more space on the truck reducing the dead weight capacity of the vehicle.
As the pricing structure is based on dead weight, it is necessary to calculate the dead weight equivalent for high volume, low weight loads by using the industry standard formula.
Calculations are based on 333kg per cubic metre. If the load weight exceeds the 333kgs per cubic metre then the cost is based on the dead weight of the freight.
Volumetric charging is calculated by using the following formula:
Length (metres) x Height (metres) x Width (metres) x 333kg = Volumetric weight
